Series Concept
Anesthesia Technicians are responsible for maintaining all anesthesia service areas in readiness for use by Anesthesiologist and Anesthetists. Incumbents are responsible for anesthesia equipment and supplies; work independently and be able to make decisions and set priorities with some guidance; responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable infection control, health and safety policies and procedures as implemented by the institution; may assist Anesthesiologists with patient positioning, preparation of sterile fields, placement of invasive monitoring lines, application of regional, epidural and spinal anesthesia techniques, invasive and noninvasive procedure setups, or perform anclJor record cardiac output determinations.
Anesthesia Technician
Under general supervisor, incumbents perform the full range of duties as outlined in the series concept.
Anesthesia Technician 2
Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties as outlined in the series concept in addition to the more complex and specialty cases. Incumbents may be responsible for training other technicians; assembling sterile components necessary for procedures; performing quality control on specific equipment; performing laboratory tests such as blood gases (ABG), hematocrit (HCT), activated coagulation times (ACT), etc.; setting up calibrating equipment; as well as performing preventative maintenance and simple mechanical repairs.
Anesthesia Technician 3
Under general supervision, performs all Anesthesia Technician 2 responsibilities, advanced equipment and inventory management, and assists with preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs. Maintains accurate records of any equipment maintenance, issues and inventory. Documents incidents and reports equipment issues to leadership.
Participates in quality assurance projects such as implementing and upholding safety protocols. Collaborates with leadership on initiatives to improve anesthesia practices, which may include emergency preparedness such as crisis management during surgical procedures, rapid response, and equipment failures. Stays updated on advancements of anesthesia technology and techniques.
Assists with development of competencies for anesthesia technicians and supports training efforts in conjunction with supervisor for new staff.
Anesthesia Technician Lead
Under direction, performs all Anesthesia Technician 3 responsibilities and provides direction to Anesthesia Technicians. Assists leadership with scheduling and assignments. Develops and implements training materials and education. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining optimum productivity levels within the unit, assisting the manager with hiring, and providing input on staff performance. Participates in special projects and with process improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants and incumbents are expected to possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to this position.
Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer.A.T.T.) or Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) is preferred.
