Class Concepts

Under supervision, Drivers operate standard automobiles in the transport of passengers or small items of supply; and perform other related duties as required. Incumbents typically drive a university automobile in the pick-up and delivery of passengers such as university guests and personnel; drive automobiles in order to provide courier service in the delivery of mail, packages, small quantities of supplies, and other small loads; and may keep records of mileage and reports needed for servicing automobiles.

The Driver class is distinguished from the higher level class of Automotive Equipment Operator by the absence of continuing responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read and write, and demonstrated driving ability; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Must have a valid California Department of Motor Vehicles Driver’s License.
