Class Concepts
Under supervision Material Planners procure materials, supplies and equipment for maintenance, repair and alteration projects; establish and maintain material cost control procedures; assist supervisors and physical plant personnel in the revision of material requirements; recommend and institute changes to mechanized inventory system; and perform other related duties as required.
Incumbents typically requisition material and supplies from University stores, through the Purchasing Department or from vendors; update computerized inventory and disseminate material lists; maintain shop supplies; select substitute items; arrange for on-site delivery of materials or special equipment to coincide with work schedules; notify personnel of material availability and positioning; assist in determining additional requirements in order to reduce disruptions to the work schedule; may solicit bids for on- site repair and alteration; and may prepare requests for short-form contracts.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations, and three years of work experience in building and maintenance materials supply; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
