Series Concept
Under superv1s1on, machinists produce replacement and new parts for repairing mechanical equipment; interpret written instructions and specifications; plan and lay out work; use a variety of machine tools; shape metal parts to close tolerances; make shop comoutations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feed, and speeds of machining; select materials, parts, and equipment required; and fit and assemble parts into mechanical equipment.

Machinist Leadworker
Under general supervision, incumbents serve as working leaders of a small crew of machinists on assigned maintenance and repair or incidental constuction projects or serve as assistants to a supervisor for a group of machinists. Incumbents typically schedule maintenance; order and inspect machine tools and other material required for maintenance; establish work procedures; analyze work problems; and are assigned responsibility for the quality of work produced and the safe operation of power equipment.

Under supervision incumbents perfonn the full range of duties as outlined in the series concept.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for positions in the machinist series are expected to possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful perform ance of the duties assigned to the position.
