Class Concept

Under supervision, incumbents operate manual or push-button elevators for transporting passengers, materials, supplies and equipment; and perform other related duties as required.

Elevator Operators typically respond to floor calls as registered by the elevator signal panel or other signal systems; assist patients in wheelchairs, guerneys, beds, etc., to and from the elevator car; assist in the loading and unloading of hospital equipment, carts, hampers, etc., to and from the floors, and to requested areas; provide information regarding the location of departments, offices and individuals, and the hours and types of service of various departments, or direct inquiries to the proper source of information; determine the most efficient delivery and pick-up scheduling of passengers, supplies and equipment; revise the schedule as circumstances require, including prompt servicing of emergency calls, code blues, etc.; and report mechanical difficulties or maintenance requirements promptly to the supervisor to assure efficient elevator service.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
