Class Concepts

Transplant Coordinator 1

Under general supervision, the Transplant Coordinator collaborates with the transplant medical team to ensure comprehensive and consistent evaluation of potential transplant candidates. They serve as a liaison with organ procurement agencies and coordinate interdisciplinary care to support optimal patient outcomes.

Requires a current California Registered Nurse license, graduation from an accredited nursing program and a diploma, associate’s, or bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of critical care or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Transplant Coordinator 2

Transplant Coordinator 2 incumbents perform all responsibilities of a Transplant Coordinator 1, with additional duties including collecting and analyzing data to support clinical management and certification requirements; developing educational materials and programs for patients, nursing staff, and physicians; and actively contributing to the development of clinical protocols, policies, and procedures. Additionally, they participate in community outreach, education, and public relations efforts to enhance transplant awareness and foster community support.

Requires a current California Registered Nurse license, graduation from an accredited nursing program with two (2) years of critical care or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and a master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience; appropriate specialty certification; and three (3) years of transplant coordinator experience.

Transplant Coordinator 3

Transplant Coordinator 3 incumbents provide comprehensive care coordination for transplant and high-acuity patients across all stages of treatment, serving as clinical leaders and experts in transplant medicine, regenerative therapies, or specialized care areas. Incumbents serve as process experts, clinical leaders, and mentors, contributing to research, education, and organizational leadership. They collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless, holistic care and educate patients, families, and staff to optimize outcomes and resource management.

Requires a current California Registered Nurse license; graduation from an accredited nursing program with two (2) years of critical care experience or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and a master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience; and appropriate specialty certification(s). Some positions may require a Nurse Practitioner license and possession of a valid DEA number and furnishing certificate.
