Class Concept
Under supervision, Senior Brace Makers fabricate and fit braces prescribed by orthopedic surgeons to support or correct the body; assist doctors in the planning and design of special braces; make patterns and measurements of patients; and er form other related duties as required.
Typically incumbents fit patients with thoracic, sacral, arm, leg, or cervical spine braces, skull plates and arch supports made of metal, leather or plastic; operate a drill press, lathe, grinder, power saw, hydraulic press, power sewing ma.chine, power shears, welding equipment and molding equipment; use a wide variey of hand tools and may design and build dies·and fixtures · for use.in repetitive fabrications; maintain cost records of time and material; and keep inventory of materials and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations; four years of tool and brace making experience under the supervision of a certified Orthotist; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
