Key Responsibilities | Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary patient treatment team, service or program for the most difficult or unusual cases in area of specialty. Identifies drug therapy strategies for patients, reconciling individual patient’s parameters, medicinal history, and advanced knowledge in specialty area to recommend the best option. Provides authoritative professional guidance to doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals on complex subject area. Advises on appropriateness of medications, dosage, dangers, and side effects. Ensures the safe, effective and economic delivery of drug treatment in specialty area. Evaluates prescribed drug therapy in relation to the patient’s condition through the entire medication use process and identifies innovative solutions to maximize the benefits. Develops and conducts specialized education / public information classes in area of specialty. Performs clinical investigations of new drugs in area of specialty. Develops and conducts specialized educational in-services for the pharmacy and facility’s staff in area of specialty. Designs lectures for public information classes in area of specialty. Leads the clinical investigation of new drugs in the specialty. Serves on specialty drug therapeutic committees, applying expertise to consult on overall policy in relation to drug usage, new products, clinical trials, infection control, etc. Advises on clinical budgeting through serving on finance committees or advising management on effective, economic drug therapy. Serves as the pharmacist lead and manages a limited number of professionals for a specialty service and / or manages an organizational program. |
