Series Concept
The Neurodiagnostic Technologist specializes in the recording and analysis of electrical activity in the brain and nervous system. Their primary responsibilities include performing diagnostic tests such as routine and complex EEGs, Video EEG for epilepsy monitoring, long term EEG monitoring, Evoked Potentials (EPs) and other specialized procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings including nursing floors, intensive care units, operating room and other specialized locations. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist will ensure electrode and technical integrity and ensure optimal technical quality for all neurodiagnostic procedures. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist may participate in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, in-services and staff development activities.
Class Concept
Principal Neurodiagnostic Technologist
The Principal Neurodiagnostic Technologist, under minimal direction performs the full range of duties outlined in the series concept. In addition, incumbents actively participate in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, in-services and staff development activities and provide training, guidance and support to other staff on routine and complex procedures.
Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist
The Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist, under general supervision, performs the full range of duties outlined in the series concept and actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, in-services, and staff development.
Neurodiagnostic Technologist
The Neurodiagnostic Technologist, under direction, will perform the full range of duties outlined in the series concept and may participate in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, in-services, and staff development activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Principal Neurodiagnostic Technologist
Graduation from an accredited Neurodiagnostic training program, or equivalent combination of relevant training and professional experience demonstrating competency in neurodiagnostic procedures.
Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) or Registered Evoked Potential Technologist (R.EPT) or Registered CLTM or Registered CNIM. Registered in one or more modalities: EEG and/or Evoked Potential Technologist (R. EEGT./R. EPT.), CLTM, CNIM. Demonstrated competency in performing complex EEG’s in one or more modalities. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Neurodiagnostic Technologist experience and acute care hospital experience are required and determined by the department based on specific needs and standards.
