Echocardiographic Technicians take and process echocardiograms and echo-phonocardiograms; and perform other related duties as required.

Incumbents typically work within guidelines established by a staff physician in the performance of advanced cardiac physical diagnoses and physiologic data measurements which require knowledge of cardiac anatomy, cardiac pathophysiology and cardiac maneuvers. Incumbents are assigned responsibility for making electronic manipulations and assisting physicians in the interpretation of ultrasound patterns utilizing a variety of skills which typically include transducer selection, A vs M mode, compensated gain, reject and damping, and polaroid and strip recording.

The Echocardiographic Technician series consists of three levels with the distinction between levels based on the scope and/or complexity of diagnostic echocardiographic functions and the degree of supervision exercised.
