Class Concepts

Cardiovascular Technician

This is the fully operational level for the series. Incumbents set up room and sterile table for cardiovascular cases; monitor cases; assist with patient transport to and from labs; and assist with all emergencies. Since this is the journey-level position in this series, the majority of the positions are allocated at this level.

Cardiovascular Technician 2

This is the senior level for the series. In addition to the operational level duties above, incumbents act as preceptors educating new staff, fellows, and nurses by providing in-services; serve as a staff resource; and attend national conferences.

Incumbents at this level may serve as advanced operational technicians and/or team leads handling advanced, complex cases. They may also assume responsibilities related to quality assurance to ensure excellence in service delivery. They may also advise and direct other technicians on new or complex procedures; investigate issues or substandard procedures and recommend effective solutions. Additionally, they oversee and ensure that equipment repairs are carried out thoroughly and to standard.
