Series Concept
The Angiography Technologist specializes in performing imaging procedures to visualize blood vessels and the circulatory system. They obtain images through the use of Digital Fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT), and ultrasound machines capturing high-quality images for diagnosis. They ensure patient safety, follow proper protocols, maintain sterile environments, assemble sterile trays, ensure appropriate supplies and equipment (e.g. catheters, guide wires, stents, balloons), and document procedures. Incumbents may also scrub in and assist the interventional radiologists as needed.
Class Concept
Lead Angiography Technologist
Under general supervision, incumbents typically perform the full range of duties outlined in the series concept. They must also demonstrate a comprehensive and advanced understanding of both neuro and vascular cases, including image quality assessment and improvement plans, equipment performance, regulatory and accreditation standards, performance improvement processes, change management, patient flow, fiscal implications, and the various technology utilized within medical imaging and interventional departments. They also serve as functional and staff leads, coordinating departmental workflow to optimize effectiveness and efficiency. In the supervisor’s absence, they assume primary responsibility for departmental operations. Additionally, they coordinate and deliver staff education, providing team and individual instruction as needed.
Senior Angiography Technologist
Under general supervision and at an advanced operational level, performs the full range of typical duties outlined in the series concept. The employee must also demonstrate proficiency and regularly perform the following tasks: operating CT for interventional procedures, assisting and scrubbing in for neurological angiography, embolization and intervention procedures, and performing complex ablation interventions (i.e. Cryo, Microwave, RF, PEF). As needed, they assist in coordinating departmental workflow within their assigned area ensuring the efficient utilization of staff, equipment, and resources needed to meet imaging demands and departmental turnaround times.
Angiography Technologist
Under supervision, incumbents perform the range of typical duties outlined in the series concept. This is the operational or journey level class in the series where majority of positions are typically allocated.
Minimum Qualifications
Angiography Technologists must hold a valid Certified Radiological Technologist (CRT) credential, possess a current California fluoroscopy permit, and maintain American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
In addition, Lead and Senior Angiography Technologists must possess ARRT (R)(VI), demonstrate relevant years of experience and higher-level proficiencies for each role.
Specific experience requirements for positions are approved by the Human Resources Director.
