Custom ScopeApplies skills and experience as a seasoned acupuncturist to independently provide specialized acupuncture treatments. May also integrate and provide other aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Typically, the bargaining unit job code should be used for work covered by this title. However, if the position is not covered by the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) due to one of the following reasons—(1) Confidential status, where duties normally require access to confidential information that significantly influences the development of management’s bargaining or grievance positions; (2) employed outside of California at a location with 100 or fewer employees; or (3) Supervisory status, where duties include supervising employees as a regular part of the job—then the position should be listed under the generic title without the “HX” ending.
Key Resp 01Provides acupuncture treatments as part of holistic patient care plan. Integrates methods that address physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural issues. Identifies patient care needs and advances acupuncture care as part of clinical care team.
Key Resp 02Provides acupuncture according to internal standards of care, and the State of California guidelines for Licensed Acupuncturists.
Key Resp 03Develops acupuncture treatment plans, in coordination with the patient care team. Schedules and coordinates appointment times to maximize productivity.
Key Resp 04Recommends changes or improvements to policies, processes or workflows to management.
Key Resp 05Participates in patient care team meetings, rounds, and other care coordination activities. Participates on multidisciplinary team, division, and department committees and projects as needed.
Key Resp 06Maintains patient documentation in accordance with protocol. Documents activities, follows-up, and identifies when it is appropriate to escalate.
Key Resp 07Assesses patient’s health status and develops acupuncture treatment plans. Integrates acupuncture with total care plan. May also integrate other aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Key Resp 08Provides acupuncture education and counseling for patients and families.
Education RequirementGraduate of a school accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) and / or equivalent training in an approved acupuncture tutorial program / apprenticeship.
Education RequirementSuccessful completion of a supervised clinical internship-training program approved by the State of California Acupuncture Board.
License RequirementLicensed Acupuncturist (LAc) in the State of California

Sensitive information includes but is not limited to employee and student records, health and patient records, financial data, strategic plans, proprietary information, and any other sensitive or non-public information learned during the course and scope of employment. Understands that sensitive information should be shared on a limited basis and actively takes steps to limit access to sensitive information to individuals who have legitimate business need to know. Ensure that sensitive information is properly safeguarded. Follow all organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy. This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks. The unauthorized or improper disclosure of confidential work-related information obtained from any source on any work-related matter is a violation of these expectations.
KSA 01Thorough knowledge of acupuncture techniques, skills, and procedures. Applies knowledge to assess, monitor, and treat patients.
KSA 02Knowledge of relevant UC policies and external regulations.
KSA 03Strong skills in patient education. Ability to break down complex concepts in an understandable way.
KSA 04Knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in acupuncture.
KSA 05Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with peers, patients, multidisciplinary team members and management.
