Class Concept
Under general direction, Laboratory Site Superintendents serve as general managers of University radio astronomy laboratories; and perform other related duties as required.
Incumbents typically supervise and train all personnel assigned to a radio astronomy laboratory, and ensure that all scientific astronomy programs are performed in the manner specified by each astronomer; supervise the operation and routine maintenance of all telescopes, vehicles, electronic and machine shops, antennas; buildings and grounds, and water systems; supervise and inspect all construction at the laboratory, and arrange for the completion by a general contractor of construction projects which are beyond the capabilities of laboratory personnel; and ensure that adequate safety equipment is available.
In addition, incumbents schedule tours of the laboratory as requested by the general public or school groups; and represent the University at local func tions.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from college with a major in engineering, and three years of progressively responsible experience in management of a scientific laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
