Job Summary

Involves the development and implementation of new strategic alliances and business development initiatives. Identifies, investigates, and analyzes possible licensing opportunities and strategic partnerships. Manages ongoing agreements and /or alliances to maximize the value of the relationship for the organization.

Custom ScopeCoordinates and implements projects to support the industry alliance program. Analyzes opportunities for new strategic alliances or expanding current partnerships. Assists in supporting partnerships and coordinating events. This title is bargaining unit only. There should never be an uncovered position.  Coordinates and implements an industry alliance program. Responsible for initiating, maintaining and expanding partnerships. Coordinates and plans promotional events. Typically, the bargaining unit job code should be used for work covered by this title. However, if the position is not covered by the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) due to one of the following reasons—(1) Confidential status, where duties normally require access to confidential information that significantly influences the development of management’s bargaining or grievance positions; (2) employed outside of California at a location with 100 or fewer employees; or (3) Supervisory status, where duties include supervising employees as a regular part of the job—then the position should be listed under the generic title without the “SV” ending.
Key Resp 01Under general direction, conducts proactive outreach to potential partners promoting a University research program’s capabilities, objectives, faculty and students. Executes outreach activities.Plans and implements proactive outreach to potential industry partners, tailoring communications to explain how a strategic alliance with the University research program will serve their unique and custom needs. Facilitates outreach activities and bridges potential areas of interest.
Key Resp 02Continually updates the industry partner contact database and develops contact lists to reach multiple levels and listings of the University’s industry alliance partners and potential partners in the academic, government, and industry communities. Builds dissemination tools and resources.Engages prospective partnerships and coordinates meetings with university research program leadership to pitch forming an industry partnership.
Key Resp 03Seen as a reliable resource for any general support and answering industry partner questions or concerns. Provides information regarding industry alliance program services, seminars, resources and publications.Builds and cultivates relationships and ongoing communications with industry partners. Identifies ways to improve the relationship to meet partner needs and achieve alliance goals. Provides clarification and guidance on financial and contractual responsibilities.
Key Resp 04Assists with identifying gaps in industry alliance program services and ideas to better satisfy partner needs. Implements program improvements and updates related staff to maintain consistency in services.Analyzes partner and industry needs, recommending a strategy to expand the industry alliance program, services, and trainings. Launches improvements to programs through creating timelines and leading regular meetings to ensure project successfully meets goals.
Key Resp 05Solicits feedback from industry alliance partners regarding agreements and relationships. Resolves issues when possible and escalates as appropriate. Provides top customer service for all assigned partners.Expands existing partner agreements through analyzing partner needs and recommending ideas to grow the relationship. Implements initiatives to maximize the relationship.
Key Resp 06Executes events involving influential members of the campus, community, government officials and media. Under general supervision, coordinates events according to plans and communicates updates and agendas to speakers, vendors, and staff.Participates in comprehensive planning of complex, highly visible events involving influential members of the campus, community, government officials and media. Provides overall coordination for events, communicating with potential speakers about strategy and agendas.
Key Resp 07Tracks program and event expenses to ensure costs do not exceed budget and adhere to University guidelines. Updates and reports cost and revenue status to Management.Develops comprehensive program and event budgets, projecting costs and revenue expectations. Analyzes cost effectiveness of industry alliances and strategic events.
Key Resp 08Informs and engages the targeted audience about University research information, industry alliance programs and events through various methods including regular newsletters and webpages. Maintains contact distribution tools.Assists in developing marketing and communication plans to targeted academic, government, and industry relations communities. Manages contact distribution tools through campus system.
Key Resp 09 Effectively communicates and reports program status, direction, and recommendations to Industry Alliance Management and the University Executive Team. Coordinates with central office Industry Relations staff to ensure synergy of efforts and outcomes, and avoidance of duplicative efforts.
