Generic ScopeTechnical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.
Custom ScopeDesigns, produces and approves visual presentations, publications or communications for audiences that are either broad or highly influential using various creative methods. Requires subject matter expertise and an in-depth understanding of the audience and visual communication strategies/methods. The work is of considerable difficulty and requires consultative skills to lead projects with clients. Functions as a lead within the department. Typically, the bargaining unit job code should be used for work covered by this title. However, if the position is not covered by the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) due to one of the following reasons—(1) Confidential status, where duties normally require access to confidential information that significantly influences the development of management’s bargaining or grievance positions; (2) employed outside of California at a location with 100 or fewer employees; or (3) Supervisory status, where duties include supervising employees as a regular part of the job—then the position should be listed under the generic title without the “CM” ending.
Key Resp 01Conceives, produces and approves files, graphics, and illustrations for visual media, including print and digital platforms.
Key Resp 02Consults with clients to plan and design visual presentations that effectively to communicate to target audiences and suite the chosen medium.  Products may include publications, brochures, displays, presentation slides, proposals, technical manuals, web sites, and other forms of visual communications.
Key Resp 03Assesses complex and challenging written content and data and devises visual strategies to enhance clarity, understanding and impact.
Key Resp 04Develops and produces visual presentations with themes that strengthen the communication of ideas and information.
Key Resp 05Works closely with project managers, writers, and clients to understand communication objectives, identify the most suitable media and produce cost-effective products.
Key Resp 06Utilizes advanced knowledge of printing, production processes, and software for publishing, web design, and multimedia to provide high-level guidance on design and publishing technology, and produce high-quality final products.
Key Resp 07Effectively meet budget and time constraints.
Key Resp 08Leads others in department to achieve project and departmental goals and objectives.
EducationBachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
