Serves as an expert level Dietitian for a large specialized area within the nutrition department. Provides guidance and direction to Dietitians, Diet techs and mentors Dietetic interns and students. Key Responsibilities
Provides nutritional assessments for a specific patient population and manages the delivery of nutritional care. Assesses patient nutrition needs and determines macro and micro-nutrient requirements based on age, sex, activity level, and disease-specific needs. Identifies nutrition risk levels. Evaluates and monitors the outcome and effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy intervention. Provides nutrition education to patients and family members to accomplish patient goals. Assists in creating / updating patient education material. Serves as preceptor to Dietetic interns, coordinates rotation assignments and evaluates competency. Participates in projects, performance improvement activities and nutrition research. Provides in-service training to nutrition and medical staff. Assists in orienting and training new employees, interns, and volunteers. Submits articles and papers for publication on nutrition and clinical dietetics. Presents information at conferences.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
License
Licensed Registered Dietitian in the state of California.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
In-depth knowledge associated with providing evaluation, assessment, and nutritional therapy services within specialty area(s). In-depth knowledge of applicable laws, internal policies, and standards of professional conduct. Knowledge of medical center and UC policies and processes.
