Custom ScopeUtilizing a theoretical understanding of career development, advises students and alumni within a limited area of career services, such as individual counseling, career planning, or improving job search competencies. Receives guidance from higher level Career Services Specialists. This title is bargaining unit only. There should never be an uncovered position.  Utilizing a theoretical understanding of career development, advises students / alumni on a full range of career processes, including individual or group advising / coaching, career planning, setting career goals, decision making, and improving job search competencies. Provides a holistic approach to student / alumni career counseling, modifies workshops and presentations as necessary; OR maintains relationships with potential employers, school admissions representatives, and other organizations to establish contacts to meet the career needs of students. Performs independently, but may receive guidance in developing new career advising / coaching services and programs. Typically, the bargaining unit job code should be used for work covered by this title. However, if the position is not covered by the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) due to one of the following reasons—(1) Confidential status, where duties normally require access to confidential information that significantly influences the development of management’s bargaining or grievance positions; (2) employed outside of California at a location with 100 or fewer employees; or (3) Supervisory status, where duties include supervising employees as a regular part of the job—then the position should be listed under the generic title without the “SV” ending.  Applying advanced professional career development concepts, conducts strategic needs assessments of gaps in the career program, and plans and develops program improvements and new career services to help students / alumni in career planning, setting career goals, and improving search competencies. Researches, plans, and develops relationships with potential employers, graduate / professional school admissions representatives, academic departments, and student organizations to meet the career development needs of students and / or alumni. Provides career counseling for populations that require special expertise, such as Ph.D.’s and J.D.’s. Typically, the bargaining unit job code should be used for work covered by this title.
