Series Concept

Pharmacy Technicians perform a variety of tasks related to drug inventory control and to the manufacturing, packaging, preparation and distribution of drug orders in a campus Medical Center Pharmacy Department and perform other tasks as assigned. These tasks are routine in nature, do not require licenses, and are performed lUlder the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Incumbents typically perform tasks which are directly related to providing intravenous solutions and medications to patients in a Medical Center facility. Incumbents prepare labels, package medication, process intravenous and drug orders, record control information and fill requisitions.

Class Concepts

Pharmacy Technician III

Under general supervision incumbents perform supervisory and administrative duties which include interviewing and selection completing performance appraisals, implement ing corrective action, and training other technical and non-technical personnel.

Incumbents set work schedules, coordinate the work of other technicians in the llllit, and assist the licensed Pharmacist in the recommendation and implementation of new work method and procedures. As working supervisors, incumbents may in addition per form the range of duties assigned at the Pharmacy Technician I and II levels.

Pharmacy Technician II

Under supervision incumbents are assigned responsibilities in a specialized area of the Pharmacy which require additional skills, knowledge and abilities beyond those typical for the Pharmacy Technician I level. Examples of duties assigned at the Pharmacy Technician II level are bulk pre-packaging, medication cassette-filling, and narcotics control/dispensing.

Pharmacy Technician I

Under supervision incumbents perform the full range of tasks outlined in the series concept.

Applicants for positions in the Pharmacy Technician series are expect~d to possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the positions.
