Series Concept
Pharmacy Technicians support pharmacists in preparing, dispensing, and distributing medications, along with various essential support tasks. Responsibilities include processing drug orders, managing inventory, packaging, labeling, and maintaining accurate record-keeping. They assist with medication compounding, prepare intravenous solutions and medications for patients, secure and process authorizations and insurance claims, handle cashiering duties, and engage in patient outreach to ensure safe and effective medication use.
Class Concepts
Pharmacy Technician 1
Under supervision incumbents perform the full range of tasks outlined in the series concept.
Pharmacy Technician 2
Under supervision incumbents are assigned responsibilities in a specialized area of the pharmacy which require additional skills, knowledge and abilities beyond those typical for the Pharmacy Technician 1. Examples of duties assigned at the Pharmacy Technician 2 level are bulk pre-packaging, narcotics control, IV solution processing and dispensing.
Pharmacy Technician 3
Performs all activities related to prescription dispensing and medication distribution. Additional duties may include preparing and delivering medications to support complex drug therapies, managing advanced inventory and purchasing processes (including 340B program compliance), facilitating authorizations and appeals, performing specialized medication preparation and clinical support, executing complex medication calculations, and accurately entering specialty medication information into patient profiles as directed by a Pharmacist.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for Pharmacy Technician positions are expected to possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the positions. Specific job requirements are set by hiring managers, in consultation with Human Resources.
Completion of an accredited training program or equivalent experience.
