Class Concept
Drapery Maker
Under general supervision, Drapery Makers design, sew and fit curtains and drapes; and perform other related duties as required.
Incumbents typically take measurements of windows and cubicles; make reconnnendations on heading, material, color, rod, and/or plait requirements; cut materials to size and remove selvages; sew curtains and drapes by power machine and by hand; make french box, pinch and cartridge plaits; use jiffy, gronnnet and easy plait headings; may make spreads, oxygen tents, special equipment covers; may hang or supervise the hanging of finished products; and may mend and/or upholster chairs.
The Drapery Maker class is distinguished from the Sewing Room Worker class in that incumbents perform skilled tasks in the planning, making and fitting of curtains and draperies.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic calculations, follow oral and written instructions, and two years of experience preferably in a linen service sewing unit; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
