Series Concept

GI Endoscopy Technicians perform a wide variety of technical procedures in a hospital GI Endoscopy Unit or outpatient GI Endoscopy Unit.

The GI Endoscopy Technician series consists of three classes which are differentiated by the complexity of technical responsibilities. Generally, the more repetitive less complex technical responsibilities are made at the entry level GI Endoscopy Technician I class. The GI Endoscopy Technician II class includes responsibility for more technically complex equipment and procedures and responsibility for an endoscope culturing program. The GI Endoscopy Technician III class includes responsibility for equipment associated with highly complex interventional procedures such as ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound as well as departmental CQI program and developmental responsibilities.

Class Concept

Incumbents may perform operational or advanced duties as required.

GI Endoscopy Technician III

Under direction, incumbents would setup and provide technical assistance for interventional and highly technical procedures such as ERCP and EUS. Additional responsibilities would include development and maintenance of departmental CQI projects and statistics.

GI Endoscopy Technician III position responsibilities differ from GI Endoscopy Technician II position responsibilities in that they involve setup and standby technical assistance for interventional and highly complex endoscopic procedures.

Examples of Responsibilities:
