When did you start working for UC? Nov. 28, 2011

In five words or less, what do you do for UC? Manage curriculum and academic advising

Why do you love working for UC?  I love the sense of community and the knowledge that I’m working to support values that I care about — education, understanding and promoting the value of intellectual discourse and learning as lifelong goals.

What’s something people don’t know about you? I foster kittens and run the social media accounts for our local cat shelter, Animal Shelter Assistance Program (ASAP) — follow us on Facebook and Instagram at @asapcats. Nearly four years ago, a UC Santa Barbara graduate student introduced me to the shelter, and after volunteering for a little more than a year, I had the incredible opportunity to meet renowned cat rescuer Hannah Shaw (@kittenxlady) at a Humane Society conference. Her passion and energy to advocate for orphaned neonatal kittens is what really inspired me to take the leap into fostering the tiniest babies.

Who’s your dream dinner guest (living or dead)? It’s so tough to choose! My answer would change daily, but today it would be comedian Katherine Ryan. Much of her stand-up comedy focuses on feminism and female empowerment. She addresses the themes of culturally ingrained sexism and inequality while still being really, really funny. I think she would be an intelligent and interesting conversationalist and we would most definitely have a laugh!

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received? Set healthy boundaries, have confidence in your professional judgment and be willing to occasionally “relinquish the outcome” — things may not always turn out as you’d prefer, and that’s OK.
