Flu vaccinations for the 2020-2021 flu season are now available at many pharmacies and provider’s offices. There are many good reasons why you need a flu shot this year – including UC’s new flu vaccination requirement for UC students, faculty and staff.

All UC medical plans which cover faculty, staff and retirees include coverage for flu vaccinations at no cost to those covered by the plan, as long as you follow your plan’s guidelines. Here’s a quick guide – please call the member services number on your ID card if you have questions.

Anthem Blue Cross

CORE, UC Care, UC Health Savings Plan, UC High Option Supplement to Medicare, UC Medicare PPO

Flu shots are available at no cost to you at your in-network provider’s office, or at an in-network pharmacy. If you get your flu shot at an out-of-network provider’s office, you’ll need to pay out-of-pocket and submit a claim for reimbursement. Out-of-network benefits will apply. Your costs won’t be covered if you get your flu shot from an out-of-network pharmacy.

Health Net

UC Blue & Gold HMO

Flu shots are available at no cost to you at your in-network provider’s office, your participating provider group flu clinic, CVS MinuteClinic, or most major retail pharmacies. Your costs won’t be covered if you get your flu shot from an out-of-network pharmacy.

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser HMO, Kaiser Senior Advantage

Flu shots are available at no cost to you at Kaiser provider offices, drive-thru vaccine sites, walk-up flu clinics and Target Clinics (in Southern California). Your costs won’t be covered if you get your flu shot from a provider or pharmacy outside Kaiser Permanente.

UnitedHealthCare

UC Medicare Choice PPO

Flu shots are available at no cost to you at any in- or out-of-network provider or pharmacy that participates in Medicare and is willing to bill UnitedHealthCare. If you get your flu shot at a provider’s office or pharmacy that is not willing to bill UnitedHealthCare, you’ll need to pay out-of-pocket and submit a claim for reimbursement.
