The free, systemwide UC Walks event promotes walking as a form of exercise and encourages an active, healthy lifestyle for good health. It is open to all faculty, staff, students and retirees at all locations.

Campuses and medical centers will host at least one group walk on May 18, with many locations offering multiple walks throughout the day and raffle prizes. Participants will receive a free T-shirt while supplies last, courtesy of Kaiser Permanente, Blue Shield, Health Net and Western Health Advantage.

Some locations will also host additional activities, such as a flash mob dance at UC Berkeley, free health screenings at UC San Diego, and a Wellness and Safety Fair at UC Irvine.

To find out what’s happening at your location, visit the UC Living Well website. Please note that UC Davis’s UC Walks event is May 25 and UC Berkeley’s event is June 17.

Show your UC Walks spirit by sharing photos of you and your colleagues on Twitter, using #UCWalks. We’ll post a collection of #UCWalks photos on UCnet after the event.

“UC Walks is a great opportunity to walk with your colleagues and peers, get some physical activity and enjoy your campus and some fresh air,” said Julie Chobdee, UC Riverside wellness coordinator who is helping to organize the systemwide event.

UC Walks is organized by campus and medical center wellness coordinators.

More than 5,700 people across the system participated in UC Walks last year, walking more than 10,000 miles combined — the equivalent of about 382 marathons. Check out a photo slideshow of last year's event.
