UC is eager to finalize a new long-term contract that will guarantee you and your nurse colleagues market-competitive pay, quality health insurance, retirement benefits that few employers can match, and safe working conditions.

Since May, UC has been bargaining with the California Nurses Association and we would like to reach a settlement quickly.

UC and CNA bargained over three days in September, and are scheduled to meet again Oct. 17-18, 2017. UC is eager to receive CNA’s wage proposal to help move these negotiations toward an agreement. UC is ready to respond to CNA’s wage proposal with a market-competitive offer, as part of our complete contract offer.

We recognize and value the critical role you and your nurse colleagues play in providing excellent care and support to our patients and their families. A settled contract provides stability for you and those you care for. We are committed to achieving a contract that:

  • Ensures market-competitive pay that compensates you for your skills and dedication.
  • Guarantees quality health care for you and your family: UC is offering excellent health care for you and your family at the same affordable rates as other UC employees.
  • Enables you to build a sound retirement with continued excellent retirement benefits:
    • Current nurses would see no change in their pension benefits.
    • Future nurses hired after a new contract is ratified: UC is offering a choice between the traditional pension plan or a 401(k)-style plan, whichever they feel best fits their needs and goals.

Offering this choice to future employees will not affect the pension benefits of current employees; accrued pension benefits are protected by law and cannot be reduced or revoked.
