UC medical centers are renowned for their excellence, due in large part to the outstanding patient care that the university’s more than 13,000 nurses deliver every day. We appreciate all you do for our patients and to support UC’s public service mission.

As contract negotiations continued July 11-13, UC presented its proposals for quality health care and retirement benefits for nurses.

UC’s contract offer includes:

  • Quality health care for you and your family: UC is offering excellent health care for you and your dependents. UC works hard to negotiate affordable rates for its employees and to continue offering a choice of six quality health plans.
  • Excellent retirement benefits:
    • Current nurseswould see no change in their retirement benefits. UC will continue to provide a traditional pension that features a guaranteed payment to help you plan for a secure retirement.
    • Future nurses hired after a new contract is ratified: UC is proposing a new program that gives future employees a choice between the traditional pension plan or a 401(k)-style plan. Both options provide valuable retirement income. Future employees can choose based on their needs and preferences, including their age, how long they plan to work at UC and their personal investing style. Few employers offer this choice, or a traditional pension. More information about the UC Retirement Choice Program is available at http://ucal.us/retirementchoice.

The university and California Nurses Association are continuing to make progress in these contract negotiations.

UC is committed to efficient negotiations that move both parties toward a comprehensive multi-year agreement for our nurses as soon as possible.

The next bargaining session is July 18-19.
