UC continued to make progress in negotiations July 13-14, 2017, for a new contract covering more than 8,000 research support and technical staff.

During this session, the university presented its proposals for sick leave and leaves of absence. To date, UC has presented nearly all of its proposals in an effort to advance negotiations and bring both sides closer to an agreement.

UC’s proposals on the key topics of health benefits and retirement benefits include:

  • Health benefits: Excellent health care at the same rates other UC employees pay. A typical research support and technical employee in the Kaiser plan would pay $32 a month for themselves and their children.
  • Retirement benefits:
    • Current employees will see no change in their retirement benefits.
    • Future employees hired after a new contract is ratified will have a choice between a traditional pension and a 401(k)-style plan. For more details, please see our fact sheet [hyperlink to Choice fact sheet].

The next bargaining session is July 24-25 at UC San Diego.
