The University of California and the California Nurses Association (CNA) met for their fourth bargaining session on May 15–16, 2013 at UC San Diego Medical Center to continue negotiating a new contract covering more than 11,000 UC nurses.

Highlights of this week's bargaining session included discussion on:

  • UC's proposal to provide paid time-off (PTO) to nurses at medical centers where it is currently offered to other employees
  • Holiday pay and overtime
  • Appendices and side letters

UC is committed to productive bargaining with CNA to reach a competitive, multi-year agreement that fairly rewards employees for their service and preserves the quality of the UC medical centers.

The university hopes to finalize a new contract before the current agreement expires June 30, 2013.

The next bargaining session is May 29-31 at UC Davis Medical Center.
